On Friday, January 21, 2011, the Coleville Wolves Basketball teams hosted the Virginia City Muckers in a night of nail-biting basketball. The Jackie Giorgi Gymnasium was packed with fans eager to watch two of the Northern 1A division leaders compete to remain on top of the league. It was hard-fought, fast-paced and the Coleville teams did not disappoint.
In the early games, the JV Boys & Girls squads won their respective games in hard-fought battles. The JV Girls won their game by 1 and the JV Boys won their game by 6. Both games came down to the last minute, even seconds of their games!CONGRATULATIONS teams!
The Varsity girls game was billed to be a good game, what we witnessed, was a great game! The Virginia City team entered the game undefeated in league play and the Lady Wolves were determined to give them their first league loss.
The Lady Wolves prevailed after a hard-fought game 32-29, but it did not come easy or without some bumps and bruises.
In the first quarter, the Lady Wolves and the Lady Muckers traded baskets keeping it tight going into the second quarter. The second quarter started off much like the first, with quick offensive drives and tight defense. Unfortunately, the Lady Muckers', Jill Dupree, had to leave the game after suffering a knee injury during the second quarter and would not return.
The Lady Wolves prevailed after a hard-fought game 32-29, but it did not come easy or without some bumps and bruises.

The Lady Muckers, never blinking, were able to pull ahead of the Lady Wolves by 8 going into halftime.
The third quarter was back and forth, trading baskets and defense and the Lady Wolves were able to cut the Virginia City lead to 4 going into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Wolves had a 1 point lead with under a minute to play when sophomore McKayla Stokes hit 2 clutch freethrows to seal the win for the Lady Wolves 32-29.
CONGRATULATIONS LADY WOLVES, it was a fantastic game & we are so proud of you!
In the Varsity Boys matchup, Virginia City also entered the contest undefeated in league play. The Wolves however are familiar with tight games and welcomed the challenge. They went to work on both sides of the ball and pulled out a 74-61 win.
The Muckers took an early lead, taking advantage of the Wolves impatience on offense, and had a 1 point lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Wolves however, made adjustments in the the second quarter which gave them a 9 point advantage going into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Wolves came out running and executing and increased the lead to 16 going into the fourth quarter. With 5 minutes remaining in the game, and a 16 point lead, the Wolves began to use some clock. The Muckers were forced to foul as the clock ticked under two minutes. The Muckers made a 3-pointer at the buzzer making the final score 74-61 Wolves.
CONGRATULATIONS boys, we are so proud of you!!
The Wolves are 11-3 overall and 7-1 in league.
